Sherpa was established in 1996 - We wanted to get a feel for what Digital Marketing was like back when our founder started the company.

Back then, Digital Marketing was just getting going.
Internet access was starting to become a little bit more ubiquitous. Everybody had some sort of a connection through at least dial-up.

There were all of these different search engine algorithms like Akamai and InkTomi. So, because there were many different ways to connect to the internet and so many places to go, there wasn't a clear winner.

That's what Google really brought to the table: a clear winner. Somewhere you could focus your time, energy and dollars. As opposed to this sort of fractured approach, whether it was using Yahoo, or Microsoft Bing.

Google came in, AdWords worked and people just gravitated to it for search because at that time it was a far superior search engine and you were able to find what you were looking for.

So they were definitely interesting times, certainly as dynamic as they are today and changing quite regularly.

You know we all had are MP3 players, listening to the Smashing Pumpkins and Pearl Jam. Doing our thing like the young people that work at Sherpa today.
