If you are looking for a way to help people find your business, then you need to update and rank your old content. It is one of the best, and easiest ways to get your website flying to that holy grail known as the first page of Google.
One of the best parts about when you update and rank your old content is not only making it better and more optimized, but the fact that Google treats it as fresh content! If you don’t know this already, Google likes businesses that have fresh content. It’s a win-win scenario.

Best Ways to Update and Rank Your Old Content

Making sure your content is SEO friendly, is the number one thing you can do to help your business reach Google’s first page. Search Engine Optimization, or SEO is often seen as a difficult task that many find too complicated, but it doesn’t have to be. With the list below, you will be an SEO expert in no time!

1. Keyword Research

The first step to having great content, is having a great keyword. You shouldn’t just pick anything. Pick a small string of words that people are often searching for. Our favourite tool for keyword research is Neil Patel’s Ubersuggest. Pick something that has a large volume, which refers to how many people are searching for that term each month.

2. Keyword Density

Now that you have your keyword, it’s time to make sure you organically mention it throughout your piece of content. The ideal density is usually around 2%. Meaning, if you have a 100-word article, it would appear twice. More keywords are not better, that is called keyword stuffing, which Google isn’t a big fan of.

3. Add Images

Images help immensely with your search engine optimization. Especially when you add alternative text, or alt text, to them. This helps Google understand exactly what the image is about, and it’s another place you can add your keyword!

4. Add Links

Having both internal and external links is important for good SEO. That means linking to other places on your website, as well as mentioning other useful articles from outside websites.

5. Title & Meta Description

Make sure that when you update and rank your old content you put your keyword into your title and meta description. This is probably one of the biggest things that helps Google find, and rank your website with others. If people are searching for “how to write good SEO articles” and your article would be the best thing for them to read, but it is titled “SEO Rocks – Learn Why”, you probably won’t get many readers.

Conclusion

Taking your business from the tenth page of Google to the first page, doesn’t have to be rocket science. Using basic search engine optimization to update and rank your old content is one of the best ways to see results without spending the time and money on creating new content.

Hope you found this list useful, happy optimizing!
